Dandruff is the most irritating problem being faced by one or more people nowadays. The scalp becomes itchy and forms flakes on the scalp. This can create embarrassment in public.

Lemon, which is always available in our homes is the best ingredient to be used in curing dandruff as lemons contain the citrus acid that helps to fight dandruff and makes the scalp all clear.

How to use lemon to get rid of dandruff

So, here are 12 home remedies that can be used in order to get rid of dandruff:

1. Apple cider vinegar and lemon

You will need

  • 4 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • Cotton balls

Processing time

20 minutes

Process

  • Take 4tbsp of apple cider vinegar and 2tbsp lemon juice, mix them properly in a bowl.
  • Use the cotton ball and dip it into the mixture and then by making a partition of your hair, apply the mixture on it.
  • Keep it for at least 20 minutes.
  • Wash with warm water.

How often?

Twice a week

Why does this work?

This mixture helps to reduce dandruff if done on regular basis. Also, apple cider vinegar has the properties of pH balancing which helps dandruff-causing bacterias not to survive easily.




2. Almond oil and lemon juice

You will need

  • 3 tbsp almond oil
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3-4 drops tea tree oil

Processing time

15-30 minutes

Process:

  • Take 3tbsp of almond oil, warm it up mildly.
  • Add 2tbsp of lemon juice to it and 3-4drops of tea tree oil or any other oil available to it.
  • Mix them properly.
  • Apply this mixture on your scalp and gently massage your scalp.
  • Keep for 15-30 minutes.
  • Wash your hair with shampoo.

How often?

2-4 times a week

Why does this work?

Almond oil helps in removing the itchiness and the flakes present in the scalp. Tea tree oil, on the other hand, has antiseptic properties and when these are mixed with lemon juice, it helps in getting rid of fungus-causing dandruff.

3. Aloe vera and lemon

You will need

  • 2 tbsp aloe vera gel
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

Processing time

10-15 minutes

Process:

  • Mix the aloe vera gel and lemon juice together.
  • Apply on your scalp and then gently massage for about 5 minutes.
  • Keep for 10-15 minutes and then wash it off with water.

How often?

Twice a week

Why does this work?

Aloe vera, having antibacterial properties helps to remove itchiness from the scalp.

4. Amla and lemon

You will need

  • 2 tbsp amla juice
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • Cotton balls

Processing time

15 minutes

Process

  • Mix both the lemon juice as well as the amla juice together.
  • Apply on your scalp and let it settle for about 15 minutes.
  • Wash with water.

How often?

Once a week

Amla helps in reducing the greying of the hair and also provides nourishment to the hair.




5. Yogurt and lemon

You will need

  • 2 tbsp yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

Processing time

20 minutes

Process

  • Mix all the ingredients properly in a bowl.
  • Apply the mixture to your scalp and let it settle for 20 minutes.
  • Wash with your shampoo.

How often?

2-3 times a week

Why does this work?

Yogurt helps to remove dandruff more easily.

6. Egg and lemon

You will need

  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

Processing time

30 minutes

Process

  • To the whipped egg, add 2 tbsp of lemon juice and then mix them properly.
  • Apply on the scalp and leave for 30 minutes.
  • Wash with mild water.

How often?

Once a week

The egg acts as a good conditioner

7. Honey and lemon

You will need

  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 tbsp honey

Processing time

10-12 minutes

Process

  • Mix both the lemon juice as well as the honey together and add some water if required.
  • Apply this mixture on your scalp and leave for 10-12 minutes.
  • Wash with shampoo.

Honey contains antioxidants that keep your scalp hydrated and prevents dandruff.

8. Baking soda and lemon

You will need

  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2-3tbsp lemon juice

Processing time

4-5 minutes

Process

  1. Mix both the lemon juice and baking soda together and then apply on your scalp.
  2. Let it sit for 4-5 minutes until the scalp starts causing the itching.
  3. Wash your hair with shampoo.

Baking soda, having antifungal properties helps to reduce the dandruff-causing fungus.

9. Orange peel and lemon juice

You will need

  • 2tbsp dried orange peel powder
  • 2tbsp lemon juice

Processing time

20 minutes

Process

  • Mix the orange peel powder and lemon juice together to form a paste.
  • Add water if the paste becomes too thick.
  • Apply it on your scalp, leave for 20 minutes, and then wash with water.

10. Fenugreek seed and lemon

You will need

  • ½ tbsp fenugreek seed powder
  • 2tbsp lemon juice

Processing time

20 minutes

Process

Once every 10 days

11. Tea and lemon juice

You will need

  • 2tbsp tea powder
  • ½ cup hot water
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Processing time

15 minutes

Process

  1. Make a cup of tea by adding the tea powder to the water. Keep the lid closed.
  2. Strain the tea and then add lemon juice to it.
  3. Using the cotton ball, apply the mixture to your scalp and leave for 15 minutes.
  4. Wash with water.

Consisting of antimicrobial properties, tea helps in removing dandruff.

12. Lemon rub

You will need

  • 1 lemon
  • Lemon juice

Processing time

5-10 minutes

Process

  • Cut the lemon into two pieces, rub one slice of lemon directly to your scalp for 4-5 minutes.
  • Squeeze 1 lemon in a mug of water and then rinse your hair in that solution.

2-3 times a week

    Good to know about these natural remedies. Though I have never faced dandruff issue but my mom has it. She too uses lemon and apple cider Vinegar. Aloe is a great choice too.
