Sandalwood is also known as ‘Chandan’ in Sanskrit. It is because sandalwood has a cooling effect and is used as an ointment. Sandalwood is considered to be a sacred plant because it has many medicinal properties. In many cultures, it was used for aromatherapy. It contains antioxidants, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. 1) Sandalwood and yogurt face pack

You will need:

  • 1 ½ tbsp Yogurt
  • 2 tbsp Sandalwood powder
  • One capsule of Vitamin E
  • 1 teaspoon Rice flour
  • Optional: 1 tbsp Aloe vera gel

Process: 

  • Combine Sandalwood powder and rice flour in a bowl.
  • Add yogurt and if you want you can add aloe vera gel too and give it a stir.
  • Cut vitamin E capsule and pour the liquid into it.
  • Mix it well and make a smooth paste.
  • Apply it all over your face. Wait for 15 mins and wash it off with water.

How often:

Once a week

Why does it work:

This face pack is great for all skin types. The combination of all the ingredients works together and balances each other. Rice flour and sandalwood delays skin aging, cures acne, get rid of dirt and oil clean the skin thoroughly. Yogurt and vitamin E moisturizes skin and prevents it from getting dry and irritated.

2) Sandalwood face pack for dry skin

You will need:

  • ½ tbsp almond oil
  • ½ tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp sandalwood powder
  • 1 tbsp milk

Process:

  • Take Sandalwood powder and milk and mix them well.
  • Add a few drops of oil and beat it to make a creamy mixture.
  • Apply using a brush on your face.
  • Wipe the mask off using a washcloth after 10-15 mins.

How often:

Two to three times per week (especially in winters )

Why does it work:

This face pack will make your skin smooth like a baby. Milk hydrates skin and makes it soft. Both almond and coconut oil give skin deep nourishment, treats dry skin. Coconut oil gets absorbed in the skin more effectively. Sandalwood powder soothes irritated skin and lightens its texture.

3) Sandalwood skin lightening face pack

You will need:

  • 1 ½ tbsp sandalwood powder
  • ½  tbsp turmeric
  • 2 tbsp besan aka gram flour
  • Milk

Process: 

  • Combine Sandalwood powder, turmeric and gram flour in a container and mix them.
  • Add milk and make a thick paste.
  • Apply it all over your face, neck area properly.
  • Wash it off after 5 mins with water.

How often:

Twice a week for one month.

Why does it work:

This is the best and most effective face pack. The coarse texture of besan exfoliates the skin and makes skin smooth. Sandalwood helps in skin lightening by removing tan and rosewater moisturizes the skin. Gram flour also removes facial hairs and blackheads.

4) Sandalwood and turmeric (Haldi Chandan) face pack  

You will need:

  • 2-3 tbsp Milk
  • 1 tbsp Sandalwood powder
  • 1 tbsp turmeric

Process:

  • Mix sandalwood powder, turmeric, and milk well.
  • Make a thick paste and massage it on your face in a circular manner.
  • If it feels thick and dry, you can add some more milk.
  • Wash it with water.

How often:

3 to 4 times a week

Why does it work:

This pack will protect skin’s youthfulness and has great importance in the Ayurveda skincare routine. Turmeric has antioxidant properties which protect skin from pimples causing germs. Milk hydrates skin and makes it soft and supple. Sandalwood removes dark spots and lightens skin.

You will need:

  • Half lemon
  • 1 ½  tbsp sandalwood powder
  • 1  tbsp Multani mitti / fuller’s earth
  • A tablespoon of honey
  • 2 tbsp  Rosewater

Process:

  • Combine Sandalwood powder and Multani mitti and mix well.
  • Squeeze the lemon juice and add honey and rosewater to form a paste.
  • Apply the paste on your face and let it dry for 15 mins.
  • Wash it with water.

How often:

Once a week.

Why does it work:

Lemon juice contains vitamin c. Sandalwood and lemon both contain astringent properties. They work great for oily skin. It rejuvenates skin cells. This face pack will refresh and will cleanse your skin thoroughly.

You will need:

  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2-3 tbsp sandalwood powder
  • 3-4 tbsp rose water

Process:

  •  Take all the ingredients in a bowl.
  • Mix them properly.

  • Wash it off after 10 mins.

How often:

3 to 4 times a week.

Honey and sandalwood together fight acne, pimples. It makes skin

You will need: 

  • A ripe papaya
  • Sandalwood powder
  • Rosewater

Process:

  • Cut cubes of papaya and blend them.
  • Squeeze the juice out of it and add sandalwood powder.

  • You can add some drops of rosewater or essential oil to make it smell great.

You will need:

  • 2 tbsp sandalwood powder
  • 1 tbsp orange peel powder

Process: 

  •  Take all the ingredients in a bowl and add some water as required.
  • Mix them until it becomes a thick granular paste.
  • Gently massage it on your face in a circular motion.
  • Let it dry a little bit and then wash it off.

How often:

Once a week
