Head lice are insects that feed on human blood and infect the scalp. Head lice can easily spread from one person to another. The challenge with treating lice is that most of the treatment kills head lice but cannot help prevent their reinfestation. Let us see how tea tree oil helps in treating head lice.

How to use tea tree oil for head lice

1.Tea tree oil with Carrier oil for head lice

What you need

  • 2 to 3 drops of tea tree oil
  • 1 to 2 drops of Carrier oil (Almond oil)

What you have to do

  • Apply mixture carrier oil and 2 to 3 drops of tea tree oil onto your scalp and leave it overnight.
  • Comb your hair to remove dead headlice the next day.
  • Do shampoo and condition on your hair.

How often should you use

Repeat this remedy twice every week till you get better results

Why this works

Tea tree oil has properties that kill head lice. The strong smell of tea tree oil prevents reinfestation of lice as well.

Caution

It is recommended to use tea tree oil not more than 2 to 3 drops as being strong in nature it may cause harm. Always diluted with coconut oil or olive oil is much better to use.




2.Tea tree oil with coconut oil for head lice

What you need

  • 1 teaspoon tea tree oil
  • 3 teaspoon coconut oil
  • 1-ounce natural shampoo

What you have to do

  • Mix coconut oil with tea tree oil in a natural shampoo.
  • Apply this on your head and leave it for 30 mins.
  • Cover your head once this is applied.
  • Comb your hair to remove dead lice and wash it off.

How often should you use

Twice a week

Why this works

Coconut oil soothes the scalp. Tea tree oil prevents reinfestation of lice as well as kills the head lice. The shampoo is used to thoroughly cleanse the scalp

Caution

Treatment is done as per said causes no harm ..in fact, is good to treat head lice naturally at home




3.Tea tree oil with olive oil for head lice

What you need

  • 2-3 drops of tea tree oil
  • 3 tablespoon olive oil
  • Vinegar

What you have to do

  • Mix tea tree oil in olive oil.
  • Apply this on to your scalp and leave it for an hour.
  • Wash your hair with natural shampoo
  • Rinse hair with vinegar

How often should you use

  • 3 times a week

Why this works

Olive oil softens the hair.

Caution

Tea tree oil can be toxic when taken orally hence it is recommended to use it for topical application only.

The use of tea tree oil can cause skin irritation, mild rash, depressed behavior, diarrhea, muscle tremors, loss of enthusiasm, etc hence should be avoided if one has a history of allergies. Diluted tea tree oil is always recommended
